Is this the official announcement? I don't see anything other than what has previously been posted, no new quotes etc. Was there a news conference or
something? I see nothing on ESPN.com.

What do you mean no new quotes? What more official do you want?

Not trying to make this into a pissing contest but, please read the rest of my post, and 'splain, please. Just trying to confirm that this is the real,
end-all, finale, official, written in stone, signed sealed and delivered, concrete, non mulligan, done deal. Besides, if it ain't on ESPN, it ain't
official in my book.

Good for him. Notre Dame is a fine school and he'll win, at least for a year, while he's there playing.
Anyone else starting to think that Shelvin Mack, the Bryan Station boys' basketball star, could
become Billy Gillispie's Chris Lofton?

You could see this coming. It made the most sense in terms of proximity from home but still playing for a school with a high profile (not knocking Butler, just
saying that it's a Big 6 school). I don't really think it's the best basketball decision for him. He didn't matchup well against some Big Ten
teams, and the top of the Big East will be tougher than what he faced at Purdue. But, he gets a year to practice and develop, which might be worth it.
Moving on... |

It means more playing time for Butcher and Hayward...Martin would have been a great fit but I'm not going to cry about those two guys getting more time...

Thats right BATW. Martin is a great talent and would have been excellent, but his addition would have kind of screwed up class balance royally and given the
structure of the current team his addition would have created certain redundancies.

My gut was right, as well, Nil. He had a hard choice between Butler and ND, but I can understand him taking either one. In his position, I would have probably
chosen ND, as well. Valpo would have been the head scratcher for me.

We'll probably never know what his second choice was, but I'm sure Valpo posters will insist it was them. Oh well, doesn't matter one bit.

Can we really blame him? I'd like to say I'd take Butler as well, but...
ND is going to be really, really good next year. We are a huge question mark. Regardless of what the scenario is two years from now, I'm sure he'd rather be sitting out for a Top 15 team next year... The prestige of ND vs. Butler... Big East vs. Horizon... ND degree vs. BU degree (I'm a proud Butler alum and I see the difference)... I know these are obvious differences, but these are the things that we have to continually improve our approach towards with players that are faced with decisions comparable to this...

If ND is going to be really good next year - Martin is going to miss out on that...

NW Indiana Post Tribune
Martin to Notre Dame by Mark Lazerus on May 28, 2008 3:22 PM Scott Martin has spurned hometown Valparaiso once again for a bigger, higher-profile school. The Valparaiso High School grad and Purdue transfer has chosen Notre Dame. He called coach Mike Brey Tuesday night with the news. "He was excited," Martin said. "I think it made his day -- I hope it did." On the surface, it seems like a lateral move -- another big school, another tough lineup to crack. But Martin was ebullient when describing his visit and how much he liked Brey and his staff. But the biggest factor, Martin said, was Brey's style of play -- the uptempo, high-scoring style rather than the bruising slower pace of the Big Ten. Martin said he was about to call Homer Drew and tell him his decision. "It was a tough decision," Martin said. "(Valparaiso) was right behind Notre Dame. I just feel this is a better fit." For more, check out Thursday's Post-Tribune. Do you believe Martin himself? I think he clearly states Valpo was his second choice. |

What would you expect from an interview with the local paper? I don't think he'd make any more friends if he answerd that Butler was ahead of Valpo. He
said what the locals wanted to hear.
We'll never really know what he was thinking, other than that ND was his choice.

The question in a Valpo newspaper was probably about Valpo so that's how he answered it. It doesn't matter anyway. It's kinda silly to try to prove
us wrong...

Even if that is the case, are you really bragging about being the top loser? Congratulations Indy Terry, you've won...absolutely nothing! I hope when Scott Martin almost shows up at Valpo in the Fall you give us an update on the dorm room he almost lived in and the classes he almost attended. Feel free to update us on the stats he almost had in a year and a half...we'll be waiting! |

Indy Valpo......... You know he couldn't say anything else. It could be Butler was also right behind ND. We will never know nor will it matter. I do hope
though that you are smart enough to ignore anything Duck has to say.......... you and your comments are welcome here anytime.

I wish him well, but I don't feel it is a big loss for us. IBN spoke of him in a very derogatory manner; said his old man was a pain in the ass and was in
Painter's face as well as not being a big fan of the weightroom. We don't need a prima donna.
