FWIW, Van Coleman has done this since dirt was invented. He is very good, probably the best.

Pending Scott Martin's decision, Butler
comes in at 54. (I would imagine Martin would be worth around 10 spots)

Anyone else starting to think that Shelvin Mack, the Bryan Station boys' basketball star, could
become Billy Gillispie's Chris Lofton?

I doubt UDM's incoming class has a collective GPA higher than a 3.6...
"We've had a good program for the past 12 years, and we've never had an NBA player," said Butler sports information director Jim
McGrath. "Our pros are doctors and lawyers."

I had no idea that UDM had a recruiting class anywhere even close to our quality. Who do they have coming in?
"Butler was constantly running screens to get their guys shots. And they weren't just one and done. They were set plays with three, four or even five
screens in a row. We don't do nearly enough of that." -rockytopjag; South Alabama Poster

By the time they are eligible, Mack and Co. would have that year under their belt.

Hello,
I just wanted to clarify a few things said in this post regarding Detroit: 1) Here are some APR reports: 2005-06 http://www.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/stories/050307aba.html 2008 http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php/NCAA_Academic_Progress_Report:_2008 Detroit is the only Horizon school in the top 10% in Men's Basketball. They were even given a Public Recognition Award by the NCAA in the second link. So, unless I'm missing something, can you please stop bashing our academics? 2) Here are the links for our top three recruits, all of whom will be eligible next season: http://www.detroittitans.com/mbasketball.jsp?id=1209385047509 http://www.detroittitans.com/mbasketball.jsp?id=1209439351795 http://www.detroittitans.com/mbasketball.jsp?id=1210792986944 Although we did sign Holman as well, I don't think he will play next season. |

They weren't talking about Holman. Holman may have anger management and law-abiding issues, but I don't know if it is entirely clear if he has grade
issues.
Go over to a KSU message board and ask any of them what your new center's GPA was freshman year. All of the things you cited, above, are a result of Perry Watson's priorities as it relates the his basketball team. You couldn't pick more than 4 or 5 coaches around the country who differ from those values as McCallum. On IU's coaching staff, last season, it is quite possible Kelvin Sampson wasn't the "shadiest" coach on staff. I understand the hire, Detroit wasn't going to get any better than they've performed the last few years under Watson, but don't be shocked if your respectable program turns into something resembling a Tark-era Fresno State.

"McCallum ran a clean program at Houston and Ball State." You're right, he only became dirty after he arrived at Indiana. wsu hoopster wrote: "Your comments sound like sour grapes from a Butler fan that remembers McCallum owned Butler when he coached BSU." Yeah, he sure did own Butler with an incredible 5-2 record versus the Bulldogs. I forgot that WSU fans consider a 1-0 record against anybody as owning them. Go stare at your banner.

720,
Do you mean that awesome D2 championship banner? I was hoping to get a replica, maybe hang it next to by 85 Bears Super Bowl banner in the basement. They don't have one for the 0 NCAA wins, do they? Maybe with a big gray squirrel on it?

Wow this thread reminds me of when fraternities would argue symantics over numbers and awards that didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Let's just agree that Detroit being better helps the Horizon - and let's hope McCallum runs a clean program up there. Cappice? |

I hope Detroit doesn't lose its credibility in all of this. They have alot of potential, and can really help the conference if they are able to improve. If
grades are the issue that some of you say they are, it will be sad to see. I always though McCallum was thought of as a good coach - this whole situation has
me questioning that now.
