If Butler takes 1 in 2009, as I think they will, and red-shirt both Stigall and Kampen, perfect scholarship balance (assuming Kampen receives a scholarship his academic sophomore year): Freshman: Stigall, Kampen, Open (5/4) Sophomore: Mack, Nored, Hayward, Butcher Juniors: Howard, Hahn, Vanzant Seniors: Veasley, Leiendecker (I don't believe he'll be brought back a 5th year), Open (for 2010) It might not be Stigall, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't, but one of the scholarship freshman will red-shirt. The size of the rotation and class balance requires it. Wouldn't Leiendecker be a Junior in 2009 eligibility wise?

WSU, Detroit and BU could all be very strong. I don't like the negativity towards Butcher... sounds like he was just never given the chance to do his thing. All Star games can be difficult in that way. Posts: 24 (06/14/08 11:10 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	A few comments that haven't been made yet or could be expanded upon (I attended the game): - With the game on the line Mack, Stigall and Hayward were on the court. Butcher was on the bench. - Mack was the best player on the Kentucky team by a wide margin, which sometimes forced him to try & do too much. I'd love to see the score of the game for the minutes that Mack was on the floor vs. on the bench. I'd guess it was 15+ pts KY advantage when he was on the floor and vice-versa when he was on the bench. - Mack dunks with ease. - Hayward dunks with ease (obviously) - Stigall was so-so in the first half, but really got it together in the 2nd. It was like night and day. I hope he is more consistent when he becomes more familiar with his teammates. - Stigall is a better player than Hahn, as is Mack. Hahn is in trouble & may want to evaluate his options. - The most likely candidate (in my opinion) for a redshirt year is Butcher. The other 3 are D-1 ready right now.

Why the aggressive post? It was just an opinion. Our front court would appear to be covered by Howard, Jukes, Veasley, Hayward; especially if we adopt a 3 Guard/2 Forward line-up.

There's just no way of that happening, I'm sorry I didn't phrase it better. Outside of Mack, Butcher has the most college-ready body, and can simply score the ball. He'll be in the top-7 rotation. He appeared to be the least D-1 ready player. Maybe it was just one game, I don't know. Butcher is bigger than Hayward, I'll give you that; but Ben Grunst had a more "college-ready body" than either Hayward/Butcher.

It was an all star game, and he wasn't given that many minutes. The kid can drive, pull up, and elevate.

They forget Horan's progress over four years? Horan and Hahn have a completely different styles of play. Horan was strictly a shooter...period. He had 12 two-point baskets in his career. 12. Sure, his three-point accuracy (40.9%) was a nice dimension to have, but that was about it. He couldn't penetrate, he couldn't dish and his defense was okay at best. Hahn brings a lot more to the table than Horan. He's a threat to hit the three, he can penetrate and score, he can penetrate and dish and even though he lacks some speed, I think he plays balls to wall defense to try and make up for it. I look forward to him proving all you doubters wrong. Might I remind you, he was back in the gym the day after the NCAA loss to Tennessee. That tells me all I need to know about his attitude and desire to be successful. "We've had a good program for the past 12 years, and we've never had an NBA player," said Butler sports information director Jim McGrath. "Our pros are doctors and lawyers."

I think it is more of recognizing that Shawn Vanzant, Shelvin Mack, Ronald Nored, and, sort of ironically, Chase Stigall are on the basketball team. Nothing would make me happier for him to develop enough to hold them off, or retake Vanzant. On paper, people think we're nothing. They say we don't belong. I am sure Butcher will be fine with more minutes. It is only an all-star game though, playing against other high school seniors. I'm sure they will all be fine but I am looking forward to seeing how they match upper class D-1 players. We appear to have a bright future.

Davis, whose squad was paced by 24 points by Butler-signee Shelvin Mack of Lexington Bryan Station, said Kentucky must reduce its 29 turnovers and 25 fouls. "I was most upset with the turnovers," Davis said. "I thought we would do a much better job of taking care of the basketball than we did. We also did a poor job defensively and fouled too much." Mack was a bright spot, though, and Davis described him as a "steal" for Butler.

They are destined to have players who bolt to the NBA after a year or two, coaches that will be overwhelmed with pressure and a low graduation rate. Butler players graduate and play 4-5 years. We are going to be "stealing" a lot more players over the next few years. Prediction: with the arrival of Matt Howard and Shelvin Mack, look for Butler to very regularly take one or more of the number 1-2-3 allstars from both states. You read it here first.
