There is a huge difference there. The Pacers will have a big camp, cut it down to a roster that goes to the summer games. The liklihood of any player making it on the roster in the fall (especially with how many players that Pacers have under salary and on it) are very slim.

Great news for Pete though. Hopefully he can make the summer team roster and throw in a few shots that garner him the attention of scouts that could take him overseas and play. I assume that's what his agent is looking for. Pete needs to prove he is more than a one trick pony during the summer play.

Pete may not make the roster, but he already has an offer to play overseas, so your theory is invalid.
As far as Pete being a one trick pony...just another false statement and one that Pete has proven false to those that matter this summer.

Shot - the only trick Pete has that will work in the NBA is the 27-foot, feet set jumper. Name another of his tricks that is NBA-caliber.

How many players in the league can do more than one or two things well? Pete's ability to shoot is a given, and shooting is the most sought after skill in the game. There are lists of players that can do this or that, but how many can shoot? Do you remember the last Olympics? He'll take making the roster even if it means he has only one NBA caliber skill.

The Houston Rockets have picked up Steve Novak's option for the coming season. According to their website, Novak's been on the team for the past two seasons. He was on Dwyane Wade's Final Four team at Marquette. I think he and Campbell play a similar game although Novak is listed at 6-10. Outside shooting is the big strength for both players. Who knows? With the right team, Campbell could be an asset.

Great for Pete! He has all the shooting ability in the world; but I have to wonder if this is just a PR move. They are obviously pandering for the support of IU and PU fans with Calloway and Teague in their NCAA uni's on the front of the pacers website. Either way, this is good for Pete's career (regardless of the outcome in the NBA), and good for the program to be able to point to guys like Pete and Mike getting put onto NBA rosters like this.

I hope he lights it up from long range.

I hope Pete and his agent can clip the offensive portion of the games and send them to Europe--his defense won't be pretty to watch at that level.

If it is just a PR move, the Pacers haven't done a great job of promoting it. The only place I have heard about Campbell, Teague, Calloway, and Burrell being on the summer team is on this message board. Maybe the local media just don't care to promote it?

I never had a theory about him playing overseas. We know he will. But, a good summer league performance can certainly heighten his profile into a higher profile Euro league or team. Every time he plays, it's a job interview for a better playing opportunity.

What has Pete proven false to teams? Just curious. He can shoot, and that is a great talent to have to catch the attention of NBA teams. Look at the value the Barry brothers have had in recent years. But, at 6'7", who is Pete going to guard at the next level? Is he going to put it on the floor and drive around the elite athletes? I don't see it. His game is perfect for the European style. He will excel overseas. I was simply commenting that he is a one trick pony by NBA standards.

I wish him the absolute best on this roster. With his shooting ability and character, he could get on one huge hot streak and get a look all the way to the end.

Just want to point out that Brent Barry and Pete are at a totally different level athletically. BBarry won the dunk contest.

Exactly. Although I was referring to their recent contributions in old age, the ability to shoot doesn't guarantee you a spot unless you can also do something else.

Still waiting for your response on how Pete has proven that he is more than just a phenomenal shooter by NBA standards. Look, I never said that Pete wasn't talented enough to be invited to a summer camp. In fact, he is one of the best shooters I've ever watched play the game, and the NBA sure could use some more shooting. I'm simply talking about his chances of making an NBA roster in the fall.

I want nothing more than for him to be incredibly successful. But, I have always been a realist on this board, and I don't see any way he gets an NBA contract.

DTS: I share your opinion. I for one was happy that he got an invite to Summer Camp, but the chances of him getting a roster spot are slim to none.

Some people on this board have the optimisim/ability to reason of the typical IU fan.

Nobody loves Butler hoops more than me and some of us on here, so let's not view this as a Pete-bashing thread. ShotDawg himself said in another thread that Pete won't play in the NBA this year. In fact, he also referenced the Pacer people telling Pete to continue "working" on the things he needs to improve on. I would guess that would be defense, ball handling and view other things to make him more versatile, and not a one-trick pony, as I referred to him as.

I am not jumping on Pete here, but we have so many people who unrealistically look at things Butler related and get excited. In the past week, we've seen people talk about at least 3 Butler players making NBA rosters. We've had people say that Brandon Miller would never leave Butler for OSU, despite nearly tripling his salary (most likely) and so on. The reality is what it is.

In many ways, it's because of those things that I root for Butler basketball more and more.

Again I say, what are the Pacers thinking? You that say Pete has no chance should let them know and while you're at it, please give them the rest of your vast knowledge of the game. Maybe they will want to pay you a consultant fee for all of your insight.
