Ben Brust, a 6'2" G has been offered by Butler(nice call Title). Interestingly, he
also holds offers from Valpo, UIC, and Loyola.

The oddest article ever: Did May Commit to
Butler?
On paper, people think we're nothing. They say we don't
belong. We watched TV and we barely knew we were even playing today. Nobody gave us a shot... We're still here

So what did the article conclude? Did he commit? Does he have real interest?

In short, rumors popped up all over the internet that he committed to Butler at the end of June (one of those I came across), May talks to Butler routinely, at
this point he doesn't feel like he has an offer. May has offers from a variety of places, most recently from St Louis. There is a hint that he might commit
after the close of July with the right offer. You still get the distinct impression that he'd commit with an offer. I suppose it is possible the staff
would offer when/if he visits. I understand there are a lot of '10 prospects that we appear to be in good shape with, but I'd hope we take heed to the
"bird in hand" idea...

Here is a write-up on Andrew Smith from Scouting Indiana.
Andrew Smith (6'9.5, 210) - Covenant Christian - Noone, and we literally mean noone, helped themselves more during the early part of July than Andrew Smith. While we have always considered Andrew a solid prospect, he moved into the elite status during his play in May. Unfortunately college coaches don't get out in May, so this was the first time they were able to see him star for his Indiana Premier team. His play was so strong in July that he earned offers from Liberty, Central Michigan, and nationally ranked Butler University. Penn State, Purdue, Indiana, Boston College, and a host of other high-major schools have been seen in attendance at the Indiana Premier games. Andrew is still a work in progress, as he needs to add more strength to his long frame. However he appears to project like a 6'10-6'11, 240 pound college sophomore. His Indiana Premier team is travelling to Las Vegas, but we are not sure which tournament they will participate in. He surely will earn more offers in the coming days. |

Didn't someone somewhere post that right now he likes Butler the best? It pays to get on 'em early.

East (7th/8th regions) 120 vs West (5th/6th regions) 92
East boys romp
By Michael Grant July 20, 2008 It was a display of sheer dominance on the boys' side and a nailbiter for the girls in the Kentucky High School Coaches Association/Gatorade East/West Junior All-Star Games last night. The East boys cruised 120-92 in a showcase of area seniors-to-be at Bellarmine University's Knights Hall. It ran out to an 18-3 lead and never looked back, leading by 19 points in the first half and 31 in the second. "I enjoyed it," said East coach Jimmy Just of Manual. "The kids played real hard. I don't know if anything is really ever easy, but the kids, with the way they played, made it look easier than it was. "I thought the kids took shots when they were open. They played together. They hit people when they were open. They did what we asked them to do for the most part in an all-star game. It was fun to watch." The East roster included some of the top players in the Seventh and Eighth regions, and the West had some of the best from the Fifth and Sixth. Jacob Jenkins of Manual showed off his skills with 22 points for the East. "We had confidence," he said. "We all knew what we were capable of. We just had to go out there and show it." Chris Dowe of Eastern added 21 points, including five of the East's 15 three-pointers. Troy Weatherford of Atherton and Eric Dunlap of Oldham County his back-to-back threes to make it 18-3 midway through the first quarter. Jordan Bramblett of North Hardin led the West with 21 points, including five of the team's 13 threes. Box Score West...92 Ballou 10, Fudge 1, Cox 10, Hickman 8, Linder 5, Bramblett 21, Browning 4, Mack 5, Hazelwood 3, Clemons 9, Kelty 6, Moore 10. East...120 Bell 4, Weatherford 8, Cox 10, Dowe 21, Little 11, Jenkins 22, Mason 5, Penny 13, Dunlap 12, Kraemer 5, Gamble 3, Tingle 6. 3-Point Goals - Cox 2, Hickman 2, Linder 1, Bramblett 5, Mack 1, Hazelwood 1, Clemons 1, Weatherford 2, Dowe 5, Little 1, Jenkins 2, Mason 1, Dunlap 2, Gamble 1, Penny 1. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/...10/1002/SPORTS

Is this a result of us riding Iowa's recruting coat tails, or are we sharing information in some way? Seems there are alot of recruits with offers/looks
from Iowa and Butler.

I wouldn't look too much into the sharing information theory. More likely is the fact that Iowa and Butler now run similar systems and thus are looking for
similar types of talent.

Back to Eric May | ||
|
Catching up on the articles from over the weekend, and this Eric May situation is interesting. He likes Butler, but hasn't been offered. Isn't that a
good sign of something?
Who on here has seen Eric play? Is he a really good player that fits in at Butler, or is he an overly-athletic kid from Iowa who is getting a lot of hype on this board for a half-court shot and a phantom verbal? If he was as good as some people think he might be, I would assume we would have offered by now. So, again, I'll ask if anybody has seen him play or even has a good game report on him. |

A couple new guys | ||

Wishoops.net had a recent
update on two players that they report are getting interest from Butler; Kameron Cerroni and Ben Mills. From the short amount of time that I've looked
into, it looks like Cerroni is a legitimate prospect. Hoops Scoop Online (something I don't really value too much) has Cerroni as the 87th-rated player in
the 2010 class. Rivals
actually associated Butler with Cerroni, this morning. Assuming his list is current, I'd imagine BU would go to the top of his list with an offer.
Just another to keep an eye on.

Is this typical for Butler to be watching and potentially offering so many? Or is this one of the positive benefits of BC's athletic dept...........
increasing the recruiting budget and expanding the territory?

I think it is probably two things, Stax. First, I think you are right, Butler's name has opened doors that were locked several years ago, meaning more and
higher-rated prospects pop-up on the radar. Second, I think Butler fans are just getting more cognizant of what is going on in recruiting. Heck, Google was
founded in 1998! This type of tracking, without a dedicated writer (and the Star doesn't seem to have an interest in that) would be impossible without all
the information sources that are so easily accessible.

Staxawax wrote: We've always recruited with a strategy, but until recently we (as fans) haven't had any access to information on who were are offering. Every
program recruits the same way. There are always a high number of scholarship offers out there. Generally, you offer the kids you really want (and aren't as
likely to nab) and work your way down the list based on needs. Some schools will throw out more offers than others, but the industry standard is run about the
same. You are gambling based on those offers. The Dukes and North Carolinas of the world can offer less scholarships because the liklihood of acceptance is
higher.
