Siena gets snubbed because of the name. Butler/Davidson rings a bell in college basketball fans' ears. Too bad, but, I am happy to have the chance to see
the dawgs shut down curry on national TV.

I assume this is a prediction. Pairings are released tomorrow - Feb. 2.

Davidson's
remaining games, outside of the Bracket Buster:
Incidently, Siena's RPI forecast is 26. ESPN is screwing Butler. The only positive that could come from this game is if Butler went in there and embarrassed them, like Purdue did.

It's a prediction. I would much rather see Butler play in front of 17,000 in Albany, but none of us can control it. Siena vs.Northeastern should be a
sellout nonetheless. It's only a three hour drive between the two schools. Game #4 has George Mason traveling to Creighton. While Niagara seems next in
line for the home teams, I don't think ESPN wants two of the four top games to be MAAC vs CAA.

Is it me, or is the bracket buster a bust this year???
Funny that I sound like a BCS fan in my head when I think about how if we'd win against Davidson, people will say that they suck and it wasn't a good win, and if we lose we will obviously be punished. Unfortunately, this seems to be true with any of the possibilities this year. St. Mary's would have been a great game, but not any more with Mils out. ugh, the filth...

It is always a bust. Stupid sideshow. Mid Majors play the clowns for ESPN's programming pleasure.

ESPN doesn't care about the BB teams (they are not screwing or rewarding anybody)--ESPN just wants to make money. Many of us predicted this matchup a
month ago--not suprising at all.

With regard to Davidson's RPI, wouldn't it improve quite a bit by playing Butler? Although it would not help Butler's RPI a great deal, it would
be a top 50 opponent. If the Dogs win that game it adds to the resume. It is an important game due to Ohio State's slide.

Forget the RPI... | ||

...because the selection committee will if it's convenient. Let's just enjoy the games. I would very much like to see the Bulldogs play Davidson. And
if Curry stays for his senior year a visit to Hinkle next year should bring out a huge crowd and be a great game.
I say bring it on. |

Bracketbuster | ||

I absolutely hate the entire concept of this game. First, it is right in the heart of our conference games. Second, it does nothing for the winner and can
basically eliminate the loser. Third, as was stated above, it is just a sideshow for the media and we are the clowns performing for them.
Do we have to participate? Does Butler get a lot of money for this participation? If the answers to these two questions is negative, I say let's not get involved in the future. Big Chill |

While I tend to agree with you chill, the problem is our weak conference does nothing for us going into tournament selections, I think be Buster is busted like
everyone else, but it at least gives us a minute in the national spotlight to impress someone, anyone...hopefully.

I think a "bracketbuster" game should be a game with a BCS team vs. a mid-major team, that is how it should play out. Take 40 BCS teams and 40
mid-major teams or so and give them a game against the big boys. Then the next year early in the season, the big boys have to travel to the mid-major team. now
that would be interesting.
|
|||

BCS teams are terrified of playing mid-majors because of the effect losing to one of these teams would have on their RPI, if a Top 25 team lost to a
low-mid-major team, it could have a pretty tragic effect on their tournament resume.

I Agree | ||
|
I totally agree with WTTN3. Wouldn't it be great to see Butler at Memphis this year? What a contrast in style of play. It would be nice to have Memphis
come to Indianapolis the following year. That would really be a "Brackbuster".
Big Chill |

But isn't that the true definition of a bracketbuster? A team beating a high major team that breaks the brackets and the logic of high major teams winning?
In the system, the teams that are supposed to do this are playing and in essence diminishing the chances for both to make the tournament.

What would motivate those teams, other than large piles of money, to agree to such a scenario in the middle of conference season? Nothing.
If college basketball wanted to "fix" the competitive balance all they would have to do is remove scheduling responsibility from the individual schools/conferences and centrally do it at the NCAA. This, of course, would never happen, but it is the only scenario which would yield the kind of games you are talking about. |
|||
rhosigkick |
|||
|
Sure it may be the point, but the big schools aren't going to agree to it, and since ESPN is in the business of fondling the BCS schools they aren't
going to make them play.

Wow everyone is so bitter today.
How about it's a chance to see Butler play on ESPN in a primetime matchup that will be advertised for 3 straight weeks. It gives the entire nation, selection committee, and bracketologists a chance to see the Bulldogs against arguably the nation's best player to watch. I know a ton of people will tune in just to see Curry. Butler hasn't won in the past 2 years and it cost them dearly last year. The same will be said this season, but if they are able to pull out a win it will help convince everyone Butler isn't a fluke team with 1 loss and a weak schedule. Everyone is so RPI-conscious here and worrying about every little thing, but perception matters as well. Good call on the predictions as well. It's really unfortunate that Mills had to go down. Even if Butler didn't get to match up vs. St. Mary's, they are still a good team to watch with him in the lineup. |
