Even though these are meaningless until signing day/players declare/etc., I'm tired of reading this bored every few days and seeing the front page filled
with preseason top 25s.

Nice overview but they forgot to mention Willie Veasley in key returnees. Kind of funny that state 4 starters back but don't list anyone as leaving. Seems like he should've caught that he overlooked Willie as in key returnees he listed the other 4 starters, Jukes, Hahn, and Vanzant. Oh well I guess even Goodman for Fox isn't perfect. Still strong backer of our Dawgs so I will cut him some slack. |

I like Goodman and I love Parrish. Those are the two I look to to get the best perspective. Goodman is a regular down here on the radio too so I get to hear
him a lot talk about hoops and he does mention Butler quite often.

Okay... how much do you think Brad and the staff use this for recruits. Obviously we can sell Butler but to show them that all of the national talking heads
have Butler in their Top 15 preseason poll should be a great way to show the recruits what we are building.
Do you think it is used? |

witheto.......... not meant to be a smart *ss question, but wouldn't a recruit have to be pretty naive not to already know the recent success and ranking
of Butler basketball?

I would say yes definitely. I would think that two things, well, three are mainly used in recruiting, depending on the calibar of player:
1. Tradition 2. National Attention and ranking (ranked=more exposure on the big netowowks) 3. Ability to develop you into a professional prospect (again, depending on type of player, wouldn't apply to Butler) And of course there are other things such as education and facilities, but I would think national ranking and exposure is right up there with any recruiting tool. |

My favorite has to be all of the columnists loving Purdue next season, especially those who have Purdue in their top 5. Dutchman guarantees IU will make a
Final 4 before Purdue does.

Where do you put Purdue on your list then? I think they'll be pretty damn good.

Purdue is a top 10 team yes, but they will not make a Final 4 any time soon. They have JaJuan Johnson. About the only player who hasn't peaked yet. Yes,
Hummel was hurt all year, but I don't see him improving much than what he showed freshman year/early last season. I don't believe any of their freshman
coming in will contribute much.
Do they deserve a top 10 ranking all season? Maybe, only time will tell. But Georgetown was a preseason Big East favorite this year too. Notre Dame was also top 10. We see how well that worked out. I'm sure they will stay top 12 all year, but come March, I'm not expecting much. I stand by my claim that IU will be in the Final 4 before Purdue and will take any action on that bet. |

I'm with you Rik. Purdue is generally garbage in the post-season... kinda like the Cubs. We'll see next year just how overrated Purdue is.

OK, I'll throw in my 2 cents worth.........
As for Purdue, they certainly are talented enough to beat most teams they will play. But, much like Butler's MO..... they rely way too much on outside shooting and one inside presence. Johnson can't do it all, and the guards really don't penetrate that well. As badly as UConn played against them this year in the tourney, the guards were clearly intimidated by Thabeet (yeah, I know, he's 7'3") and they weren't hitting the outside shot........... elimination. The '09 recruiting class doesn't have anyone ready to step in right away and help. As for Indiana, Crean has a lot of commits, but when you look at the ratings they are 3 star average guys, and the "big catch" the 7 footer out of Durham........ didn't get a single offer from the ACC. We are going to see how good a coach Crean is. It could be a few years before either school gets to a final four....... dare I say Butler has as good a chance in '11 as either? |

Staxawax wrote:I am more so thinking about the guys living in Big Twelve country who only care about the Illinois', Indiana's, Michigan State's, etc... Some of these guys probably have heard of Butler but if you were to ask them how many seniors they had on the team last year or how good do you think they will be next year they probably wouldn't know how to answer. Just a guess... Maybe I am wrong here, but I think it is a great first introduction to BU for a guy who is only looking at Big Twleve schools today. |

Big Twelve huh? Who do you think they will get as the 12th team? Whoever they should do it fast because having 11 teams is pretty much stupid.
But I am with you, as the rankings come out next fall, it will be a nice bullet in Butler's gun to be able to say they are a perennial top 25 team to these kids looking to play at a high level. Especially if they can keep the schedule as good as this year's (09-10) will be. |

Willis, I think he actually meant The Big 12........Kansas, Mizzou, etc.

At first I thought the same, but then he said guys who think about Illinois, Mich st, Indiana...so I am confused as well. What I figured was he was mentioning
the big ten as twelve seeing that logic would be to have 12 teams in a conference vs. 11. Maybe I was wrong...witheto??

Stax I'll agree about your Butler comment. I think Butler has just as good of a chance in 2 years as either program, and I would even put them ahead of
Purdue. Hayward will be (if not already) a better player than Hummel. While I would rather take Johnson than Howard, I think the rest of Butler's team is
better than Purdue's in terms of making a run in March.
As far as IU, I know everyone on here hates them, but I'm certainly interested in how IU fares the next 2 seasons. It will be good to have 4 solid programs back in the state again (assuming ND shows up next year) |
