Who is going to Italy |
Lead | |

I'm on the fence about going on Italy trip August 4-13. It sounds really cool. 4 games. Venice, Florence, Milan and Rome! What teams will we play?
Pros? I can't wait to see our front line! Westfield do you want to room with me?

We'll have the same front line at last year. Smith won't be able to go.
When asked if he continues to hear from new programs, he said "I committed to Butler."; Asked if that decision was final, Mack
flashed a coy smile and reiterated his point: "I committed to Butler."

I wonder if it has anything to do with him not being enrolled at the University at that point in time, although I don't know that even if he took summer
classes that he'd be able to go. Too many rules, good thing I'm not the coach!

no! no! I meant the front line of Howard, Jukes and Kampen.

Howard and Jukes will make the Italians wish they had offered Brad enough Euros to come coach the Italian national team. Kampen will open up with shots from
North Africa and before they know what him them, the Bulldogs will be wishing them arrivederci! Think any Italians from the club teams will come on the message
board and liven it up in early August?

Hinkle Fieldhouse is correct. | ||

My understanding is that incoming freshmen are not allowed to go on international trips.

SIU's freshmen last season played in Canada. Eric Gordon played in the Virgin Islands a couple of years ago.

Freshmen are not allowed to go on these trips. Bulldogs All the Way - Could these games have been played after school started?

Seriously, WTF is the NCAA trying to accomplish here? What a totally f*#%* up organization! I'm not complaining just because this will eliminate Smith
from this trip. What possibly is the reasoning to deprive any kid of a great educational, social and athletic experience. Oh, it's okay to participate
in the practices.....you just can't go on the trip. Why? Heaven forbid the NCAA actually take into consideration what might be best for the student
athlete. Am I missing something here? What does it hurt?

It makes sense because we could tell recruits if you sign here we'll take you to Italy this summer. It could be a recruiting advantage especially for the
one and done crowd.

Do you really think a kid who is a "one and done" would give a crap about going on a foreign trip, especially when in their minds they see
"million$" after only one year? C'mon. Again, I'm looking for a valid reason. These trips are scheduled a couple of years or more in
advance. So, yes, you can use them as recruiting tools for at least a couple of recruiting classes, if that is the case. A lot of schools use legal
"perks" in their recruiting. Again, why would you punish these incoming kids? I see no valid reason, other than the fact that the NCAA is a
ridiculous organization.

Baddog--Has the NCAA always been ridiculous?? -or did it just get worse with the arrival of TIB (the idiot Brand)??
Offense is fickle, but defense comes every night.

Hasn't the NCAA pretty much been screwed up all along? Remember the Steve Alford calendar fiasco? Got suspended for a couple of games for posing on a sorority calendar for charity. No personal benefit to him. That NCAA ruling was pre-Brand. But Brand is not any better. You always see these stories where the NCAA always seems to screw over kids. To not allow an incoming freshman scholarship player the opportunity to participate with his teammates is ridiculous. The only harm here is to the player. |

If it came down to Kansas and UConn and one had a foreign trip and the other did not don't tell me it wouldn't at least play a factor. I agree the harm
is to the player, but they've got to try and fill in all the loopholes that these idiot coaches try to uncover. Bruce Webber applying for a waiver to hold
a basketball practice prior to the official date inside Memorial Stadium after the homecoming football game as a recruiting tool for Illinois was pure genius.
Give them an inch and they'll take a yard.
