He said he follows Butler, but is not in contact with any of coaches. He said that since he was a coach at Iowa he is busy and he knows the coaches at Butler are busy so he doesn't bother them. He said he sometimes sees them on the recruiting trail.
He said the first two years at Iowa were rough, but now that almost all the players are Lick's recruuts he thinks things will start picking up.
I asked if he is recruiting the same type of players he did at Butler and he said they recruit better athletes but still try to get coachable kids that are good students.
We talked about arenas which are my area of expertise in basketball and where Hinkle fits in (very high). He said overall, that Wright State probably had the best facilities in the HL. He did say that he thinks Brownell will be out of WSU in the not too distance future and that he heard through the coaching grapevine that he interviewed at Xavier and wanted that job. He thought Brownell would be a good fit there. We talked a little about Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena (15,500 capacity) which is a pretty good arena. I rank it in the 50's. He didn't say anything about BS moving on from Butler.
We talked a little about St. Xavier HS and his fellow Bomber Chris Mack. He was happy he got the XU job.
I will point out that at no time did he have a drink in his hand (nor did I) like Huggins or Andy Kennedy. I think it is safe to assume we will never see a video on You tube of him doing anything embarrassing because of alcohol.
