Surely the administration has bigger things to deal with... How do you sue an anonymous individual? Seems like a waste of resources to me.
YEAH!!!

The student admitted it was him so they're not really suing an anonymous person. Definitely a waste of the schools' time... hopefully they wise up and
drop the lawsuit.

more important than time, a waste of tuition money...

A huge waste of resources? Yes.
But if you have time, read everything. Read the kid's original blog (provided by InsideHigherEd), it contains extremely interesting internal emails regarding the dismissal of the Chair of the Music Department. |

The way I understood it, the original suit was to flush out the poster of the information. Now that we can see that the blogger is the son (stepson, I forget)
of the person allegedly "wronged", I'd have to think the suit has served its purpose, and will be dropped.

I am not sure what the student stood to gain by writing his blog, but I hope he is ready for all of the time, money, and effort he is going to have to spend to
defend himself... sometimes the juice is not worth the sqeeze.

Read the kid's original blog (provided by InsideHigherEd), it contains extremely interesting internal emails regarding the dismissal of the Chair of the Music Department. This is about the Music Department? This whole thing seems like a giant waste of time to me. Spend more time drinking, and less time on the internet. |

Speaking of slow days, and warning, not only is the following off topic but possibly off color. I've just spent the last 12 hours preparing myself for a colonoscopy (If any of you older gents know of what I speak.). Harkens me back to 'open season', if any of you bros care to remember.Actually, I was well prepared as I learned to open and swallow without tasting back in the basement. Enough with the digression, Holden, on with the Lilly Hall basketball related topic.

The university sued "John Doe" and not Jess...the suit was the only way to determine the identity of the blogger. He will not be sued in the future,
but is instead going through internal discipline, and there is no chance of him being expelled or suspended (as far as I can understand the situation)...

The lawsuit may have been dropped but this kid has done severe damage to his parents' standing with the administration. There's no doubt this was a
personal issue that he let get out of hand. And while it's arguable whether or not there was ground to stand on with the lawsuit, he 100% should NOT have
sent an email to the faculty in question. Moving from a free speech blog platform to targeting two individuals with a sarcastic email is by nature, an
initiated attack. And to lie about it to L. Johnson about the blogger identity and 12/25 email, this kid, Zimmerman, wasn't out to "expose the
truth," he was out to pick a bone anonymously. Well, he's been exposed and we know his identity...the son of two faculty members that he feels got the
shaft. Next time, kid, shut your mouth and let your parents fight an adult fight, not be forced to stick up for you as you dig them a deeper and deeper hole.
If his parents were legally wronged, they'd have every right to file a lawsuit and present their case. If they were politically wronged, guess what? It happens all the time in the work place, kid. Welcome to real life. You have two choices, put up with it and play the game or go somewhere else. Shouting sour grapes to the public makes you and your family come off very bad. I'm no longer in "The Butler Bubble" of Indy and can tell you, so I think I look at this situation with an objective eye, Butler looks bad for suing you but you look worse for lying, claiming you were scared yet spoke the truth and looking to take a private situation public because it was family. Maybe you've learned something and won't embarass yourself again by airing dirty laundry. |

Jess and I are in the same fraternity (I graduated in '08, though), and he's just your prototypical politician. His close group of friends has always
seemed to be out to make trouble with the university. Granted, some of the administration can be tough to deal with, but Jess and Co. all seem to love to
create conflict because it's fun, not necessarily because they feel like they have anything to gain.
