According to Gametracker, Butcher has not played and the other two guys have.

67-35.
Our perimeter defense has been weak in the 2nd Half. |

Yeah it is. Important thing is that there were no significant injuries and it seemd everyone got to play together...which is important. With this depth mixing
and matching and being able to keep a solid flow is going to be huge.

Here are your stats.
Unacceptably low FT shooting - 61%. (>70% is unacceptable, 70-80 is standard, <80% is great team FT shooting - imo) All in all, a good first exhibit it seems.
Schedules, schedules - class, practice and season.

Butler seeds wrote: Interesting claim, although I think you meant <70% is unacceptable. We were #60/343 at 72.4% FTs last year (confortably within the top 20%). Less than 1/3rd of NCAA Division I basketball programs shoot >70% FTs. Did you know that? |

New Castle didn't disappoint from the three point line: 6 for 7.
Hahn 3-3 and Stigall 3-4. |

Good to see that strong shooting by those guys. This team is deep. I know we have all talked about that before...but now we have seen/heard the interchangible
parts in motion. Kind of gets you excited.

So, Jukes got 7 minutes tonight, which was tied for lowest on the team. I think this means one of two things. 1. He's been jumped by Smith or 2. He is in
the dog house for something. I had heard he was really playing well in the summer, so this surprises me.

There isn't much to take away from this game. No-one played more than 21 minutes, which is significantly outside of our regular substitution patterns.
We're a 30-10 team.
The things that stood out to me: 1. Jukes PT. All of the other guys I expected to see in the rotation played 15 minutes or more. Jukes played 7 minutes. Is he hurt? 2. Andy Smith will not redshirt and it seems that he'll play 10-12 minutes per game this year. He rebounds well. 3. Nored passed the ball really well. Despite coming off the bench today, I still believe Ron will start Game #1 vs. Davidson. 4. Stigall's ball handling was sloppy. He'll need to take care of the ball more if he wants to see the floor this year. 5. Hayward is a man playing against boys in a game like this. |

Would like to know what is up with the Jukes no first half minutes. I wouldn't think much of it except that everyone else on scholarship and Kampan got
minutes in the first half...but none for Jukes? I got to think he was in the doghouse for the first half.

Neon Boudreaux - Southern Utah was #1/343 last year at 79.6%. Only 21/343 schools were over 75% last year (6% of schools). Two Horizon League schools -
UW-Green Bay (78.9% - 2nd in the NCAA) and Illinois-Chicago (76.7% - 9th in the NCAA) - were particularly strong. Butler was #60 at 72.4%, UW-Milwaukee was
75th at 71.9%.

The post game radio show said the attendance was over 4600. They gave a specific, 4660 or something, but I don't remember the exact figure.
That's very impressvie for a Sunday night exhibition game. |

Went to the "game" and the team looked pretty great. Smith was the first substitution of the game and Nored looked absolutely amazing. His offense
was okay but his defense was amazing- not sure of the final steal count but he also had a lot of deflections helping against the bigs down in the post. Stigall
looked great shooting the ball and has great athleticism, which should help him coming down and helping with rebounds. Jukes played very sparingly and missed a
few perimeter shots. Hahn's shot looked great as well and he was much more decisive- there were a few times he came up firing off of the patented Butler
high screen, something he hesitated a bit on last year. A few times he shot Brad immediately starting clapping, suggesting they likely have been working on
that on the off season. Despite quite a few missed wide open jumpers, Gordon looked amazing. Tons of deflections, rebounds, and a few blocks. They talked a bit
on the radio about how several players had three or more blocks, and I believe Gordon and Andy were two and not sure if there was another. Depauw was not good,
as the score indicated, but they also missed a lot of lay ups on back doors that were borderline uncontested. The back door defense for Butler was not great
and Howard picked up at least one cheapie foul trying to rotate and cover for a blown assignment. The Dogs needs to work on that. Free throws were bad too.
Altogether though, this team is unbelievably deep. Sorry for the long post- not sure who all made it.

I was just about to predict 4300 or so...
Almost the entire lower level was full in the first half, and some people in the middle level, near the middle aisle and along the rail. The bench side had alot more people in the middle level, and appeared to be mostly Depauw fans. I was very impressed for an exhibition game, but we are the #10 team in the nation... maybe we should expect more?? Who am i kidding, 4600 is a great number for us in this type of game!
David Woods, a voice of reason:
National publicity is good for Butler's program, of course, but remember this: The Website reporters who cover college basketball are compelled to write about something in the off-season, and Butler is the flavor of the month. Such publicity is also a reminder of how outrageous preseason expectations have become for what is essentially a sophomore/junior team. I'm actually more concerned about Butler's fans than the team. |

Duck on a Rock wrote:Absolutely, good point, it should have been <70%, 70-80%, and >80%. I was thinking of a linear scale as I wrote the sentence, but the language was, nonetheless, wrong. Let's see, if there are 345 teams and a quartile is ~86 teams, then the FT % quartile distribution by team is (Stats - Note: Butler is #63 (with two teams) at 72.4%): Bottom team - #345 - 59.6% 1/4 Quartile - #260 (three teams) -66.1% 2/4 Quartile - #175 (three teams) - 68.9% 3/4 Quartile - #86 (four teams) - 71.5% Top Team - #1 - 79.6% For a team to be in the Top 25% of team FT shooting %, they had to shoot 71.5% or better. As Duck, pointed out, firsthand, only a third of teams shot 70% or better. Just putting out all this info so that us fans can formulate as to how one could judge what good FT shooting % would be. Of note, Wisconsin Green Bay had the #2 FT% last season at 78.7%. That's just wrong... Edit: Worked on this post while Duck discussed FT shooting previously, so I'm after the fact
