Attended the game as well.....great fun, great start. WATCH captured it well. I think it is cool that Andrew Smith was named the "sub" of the game
by the WXNT radio announcers. First time he wore the Butler uniform he's sub of the game. Fasten your seat belts....this team (and its fans like us) are
going far fast.

I think Nored will be your starter at the point, but I didn't feel like we would lose much when SVZ is in the game. Gordon had some great moves...he is
going to be special, already is. Smith is going to be a good sub for Matt. I would like to see some of Matt's hustle rub off on his though.
I know it's hard to get a good gauge on anything in a game like this. But, it is nice that Brad would do his alma mater a favor. When do you think Butler will do Lick a favor and schedule Iowa? OK...everyone makes 50 free throws before you leave tonight. |

Quite a few DePauw fans there tonight. They should schedule this game preseason each year.

It is also smart marketing to schedule exhibition games with Indiana schools with large alumni bases in Indy. Filling Hinkle is a good thing.

Dawg Pound looked good for an exhibition game.

A lot of you are talking about blocks. There Should have been a lot of blocks. A lot of DePauw players looked like midgets (little people) compared to Butler.
There was one play in particular where DePauw had somewhat of a break away and I saw Gordon trailing. I turned to my buddy before the players could get upcourt
and said, "Here comes a Hayward block" and 2 seconds later, Hayward swoops in and blocks it. Gordon is amazing!

I was impressed with Smith tonight. Smart player that looked comfortable on the court. Stigall had a couple nice rebounds and shot extremely well from 3-point
land. It was also nice to see Vanzant starting. The offense would run smooth with either Shawn, Zach, or Ron running the point.

My random thoughts:
David Woods, a voice of reason:
National publicity is good for Butler's program, of course, but remember this: The Website reporters who cover college basketball are compelled to write about something in the off-season, and Butler is the flavor of the month. Such publicity is also a reminder of how outrageous preseason expectations have become for what is essentially a sophomore/junior team. I'm actually more concerned about Butler's fans than the team. |

"Crowd exceeding 4,000 vs Depauw? We would be lucky to get that during a Gossip Girl season premier!"
It would seem that David Woods had a pretty good handle on things when he predicted earlier this week a crowd of 4,000 in his blog. I was just disappointed that it looked bad when about half of the people left at halftime. The outcome was pretty well decided at that point but just wished they'd stayed longer to watch. |

NilDogg wrote: I think the student and announcer issue were simply because we were playing DePauw and there wasn't too terribly much to be excited about. As I mentioned the Pound looked packed and although it wasn't crazy/loud we are getting people to go to games. Regular crowd was rather quiet tonight too. Just not an exciting opponent. |

Its shocking to see Howard go 1-4 from the FT. Something that hardly ever happens... the 3 fouls in 16 minutes is kinda disappointing...

Hey NilDogg, I'll get my A-game together...I even told myself I was stinking it up. Thanks for not being too harsh about it. Tell your friends in the
stands that its okay to get a little hyped up about our wonderful team. Looking forward to a great and victorious year!

At least, that's what I decipher from last year's game thread. Some interesting reading from most of you:
