Even more excuses for Wright State when they have another terrible start to their season. Last year was pretty bad for the Raiders and then they finished on a
strong note. It would be nice if they could put together a strong pre-conference winning streak and improve their RPI.

Here is another reason for the Raidersif they start slow, John David Gardner is out 6-8 weeks too.

I predict another slow start for Wright State which in turn will pull Butler's RPI down when we play them and they once the Raiders get healthy, they will turn on the juice and play well down the stretch. |

There were people on their message board trying to justify why a possible lesser sentencing through the court process could and should delay and possibly
reduce his pentalty with the team.
I don't know if the legal process was settled, or if they just came to their senses, but there was thought that they would wait until that time, and let him start the season. While I think it would have been a terrible move by Brownell to delay, reduce, etc. his punishment with the team, I think it would have been best for the league, Butler, etc. if he were eligible to start the season, so perhaps they could for once start strong, and win a game or two against some BCS conference opponents. Now, you can probably once again just write them off for a few losses to start the season.
David Woods, a voice of reason:
National publicity is good for Butler's program, of course, but remember this: The Website reporters who cover college basketball are compelled to write about something in the off-season, and Butler is the flavor of the month. Such publicity is also a reminder of how outrageous preseason expectations have become for what is essentially a sophomore/junior team. I'm actually more concerned about Butler's fans than the team. |

Enforcer, not the same set of circumstances between Kansas and WSU. The difference is that Duggins has never been in trouble before.

I didn't say same set of circumstances, I said same offense... (ps couldn't find anything about Morningstar being in trouble before, maybe you can
provide me a link?). I still can't get over the fact that Brownell thinks 3 games is enough for making a decision that could have potentially cost people
their lives.

Wright State is on the quarter system and their quarter ends right at Thanksgiving. So you could say he was suspended for the whole quarter Enforcer. You happy
now!?

Regardless of what his suspension is, hopefully he understands how lucky he is that nothing worse came out of this. Maybe he hadn't been in trouble before,
but his decision went WAYYY beyond basketball and was not acceptable no matter what the circumstances.
Either way, there's nothing we can control in this situation. Brownell's going to do what he feels is best for his team in this situation. The only thing Butler fans on this board can do is put this behind us (just like Wright State will do) until February 6th, 2010. Make signs, chant "Chuggins" or "OVI" every time he touches the ball, or "Chug Chug Chug Chug" when he's shooting free throws. Is it classy? No, but you can bet your house that if the shoe were on the other foot Raider fans would be all over it. "They say not to mix business with pleasure. If that's true, then tell me how a putt-putt golf course business works." |

JG, didn't realize there were any colleges/universities that were still on the quarter system. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the link BigD but I didn't see anything there detailing any previous trouble Morningstar had been in like CigarBoy claimed. A 3 game suspension
is pretty weak punishment imo that's all I'm getting at here. Yay or nay Wright St. guys?

This is awful news if WSU loses any pre-con games that they otherwise would have won. Just stupid on Duggins part.

TheEnforcer13 wrote: Several Kansas players were just disciplined for brawling with the football team. Morningstar was one of them. He got in trouble a week later for missing curfew, and then got busted for the DUI 2 days after their coach had a sit down with the team to talk about staying out of trouble. His punishment was a message to the team. |

Haven't read a single article that connects Morningstar to the brawl (your own proboards site even sides w/ me on this one). So he missed curfew? Big deal.
He wasn't suspended because of that; the DUI is what did him in. But hey keep trying to justify that 3 game suspension lol. I honestly wish this
wouldn't have happened because you guys could have had a chance against Washington w/ Vaughn... the Horizon (outside of Butler) is usually lacking
legitimate pre-conference wins.

TheEnforcer13 wrote:Morningstar was suspended for Kansas first semester for his third offense of breaking team rules. (yes missing curfew is breaking team rules). Duggins was suspended 3 games for his first. If you do a simple google search on DUI/college basketball, you will see that 3 games is actually a higher suspension than what is usually given for a first offense. It's usually 1-2 games. |
