If Herron would have provided a better opportunity for Hopkins to right himself academically, then I think that the IHSAA has done him a great disservice here.

The situation as I understand it is seven members of his AAU team all transferred to Herron. The IHSAA I believe rightly ruled them all ineligible.

This kid seems to have bounced around a bunch. I hope he can finally find a home at Butler.

The top point guard in the class of 2010 appears to be on the move again. Recently declared ineligible by the IHSAA over his transfer to Herron, an Indianapolis charter school, Chrishawn Hopkins is headed back to Manual. |

fired up karen - I think he'll be top ten in the state on scoring, but I doubt he'll reach the 30+ ppg needed to lead the state. Manual tips off the
season on Nov. 25 at Indianapolis Tech; then jumps right into the fire on Nov. 28 against Fishers.

I'd probably put him second, if you were trying to guess the rank for some reason. Duck on a Rock wrote: HHR seems to be having some issues. Jim said something this morning about some new software, that's probably all that is. Im sure he'll get the bugs figured out. |

By returning to Manual, Hopkins is validating the IHSAA's ruling in my opinion. That's too bad.

The little twist about the whole AAU team and the coach makes this story completely different. Seems like they were all just trying to game the system. This
kid better get his head on straight academically, it would be sad to see another Jeff James situation, but with real talent this time.

Halftime--Are you saying Hopkins entire AAU team transferred to Herron? What schools were these players previously enrolled in? Obviously if this
were true the IHSAA would take a dim view and no one would think Hopkins had a chance of being released to play at Herron. Seems implausible.

I don't understand why they would even try something like that and think that there was a chance for it to go through.

No, I'm saying the opposite. I had heard the rumors about these transfers and it smelled a little fishy. I personally would have preferred Hopkins stay at
Herron and get his academics in order even if it would mean not playing ball this season. By going back to Manual he is saying, playing basketball comes first,
grades second. This actually confirms the IHSAA ruling that his original tranfer to Herron was made for athletic reasons.

Its asking an aful lot of a high school senior, standout athlete, to sit out his senior season in the sport he excells at. Hopefully he'll have tremendous
discipline and a very strong support system to keep him on task in the classroom. Also, I have to wonder if this whole situation wouldnt' be an issue
between he and his teammates and coach??
David Woods, a voice of reason:
National publicity is good for Butler's program, of course, but remember this: The Website reporters who cover college basketball are compelled to write about something in the off-season, and Butler is the flavor of the month. Such publicity is also a reminder of how outrageous preseason expectations have become for what is essentially a sophomore/junior team. I'm actually more concerned about Butler's fans than the team. |

I believe Hopkins was living at the home of the Herron athletic director.
Hmmmm...most of the AAU team transfers to Herron and its star is living at the AD home. I can't see any reason why the IHSAA should have a problem with that. |

Most kids live with their legal guardian.
ESPN: No 3 programs burst onto the scene in the last 20 years the way UConn, Gonzaga and Butler have in college basketball. |
