Good news. I will be rooting for all HL teams during pre-conference play. Even though this was exhibition, it is something positive that Detroit can take away.

Horizon League teams losing exhibition games to School XYZ seems to be an annual occurrence. I'm waiting for the annual embarrassment/disaster...my guess
is UIC or Loyola this year.

This is exactly the kind of win that HL teams should be getting. Unfortunately, we struggled even in some exhibition games here the past few years.
However, many around these parts remember this one: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3092661 |

Wow! Undefeated when playing overmatched teams in lower divisions on your home floor. Man, that guy can coach! |

Does anyone know if the Butler game will be streamed tonight?
"Butler was constantly running screens to get their guys shots. And they weren't just one and done. They were set plays with three, four or even five
screens in a row. We don't do nearly enough of that." -rockytopjag; South Alabama Poster

Apparently not according to the HLN site. They have a couple of women's exhibition games but not Butler men. Sorry.

Stritch's scrappy little point guard, #5, had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but his three-point JUST rimmed out. I know I shouldn't have been, but I was pulling for another upset. |

UCLA also almost got beat in exhibition play last night by Concordia College. UCLA hit a 3 in the last minute to win by 1. Looks like if we lose the first game
of the 76 classic, we could play UCLA.

http://www.cuieagles.com/sport/0/2.php For me the wrong Lutheran school makes a big splash and the wrong Lutheran school crashes--really crashes. Concordia-Irvine, CA is a Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (The main beginning of the church was a mass immigration from Bremen, Germany in 1837 to Perry County, MO and St. Louis, hence the name) owned school that has been growing in large numbers. It's main purpose is to educate church workers for work within the church but officially less than 50% of the students take those positions. There are 10 LC--MS schools all named Concordia (I'm not sure if Martin Luther just liked the word or if they were named by another Lutheran of high standing). The largest is 6,000 student Concordia-Mequon, WI(Milwaukee suburb). Then Concordia-River Forest, IL (Chicago suburb) 4,000 students, Concordia-Ann Arbor, MI 3,000 students, Concordia-Austin, TX, Concordia-Bronxville, NY (Long Island), Concordia-Selma, AL, etc. For Irvine to even come close in that kind of game is truly a miracle and an eye-opener for UCLA. http://www.lcms.org/pages/internal.asp?NavID=11720 Here was my quote on the UIndy-Valpo game: "This Uindy Greyhound team is only down 1 Div from Valpo and plays in a very tough GLVC. Nobody should take this exhibition lightly. The Crusaders will have to come out to play." I believe I have said all along that the coaching staff is truly under a lot of pressure to put a talented bunch of players together in a successful way on the floor. The coaching staff failed misurably(sp?). They did not prepare the Crusaders well enough at all to take the Greyhounds seriously and to play them tough defensively. Valpo fans hope this team gets a real wake-up call from losing to UIndy. I'm not so sure that is all they really need. Maybe benching the seniors and letting them watch in a game against IU-South Bend or similar school would be appropriate. Let them see how much some of the freshmen want to play.

There are 10 LC--MS schools all named Concordia (I'm not sure if Martin Luther just liked the word or if they were named by another Lutheran of high standing).Seeing that he lived ~1480-1550 in Germany, I doubt he was the one to name these universities in the US. For Irvine to even come close in that kind of game is truly a miracle and an eye-opener for UCLA.True, although, Concordia was 28-7 last year (221-62 over the past 8 years) reaching the NAIA national quarterfinals and have reached the NAIA tournament three straight years. NAIA does not equal UCLA, but it's not like they are not a fundamentally sound team. |

Isiah Thomas is a horrible coach, executive, and pretty much human. Glad his team lost and can't wait for UNC to deal them a 50 point smacking. As for
Rollie, he was in Puerto Rico last xmas for a tourney and my family and I were there about to leave San Juan on a cruise, we stayed at same hotel and I got
into the elevator with a Butler shirt on, and there he was. Gave me hell for it. But was a really cool guy and took the time to talk to my brother and I for a
few minutes about some of his coaching and experiences.

What's even more daunting, FIU kicks off their regular season Monday in Chapel Hill against North Carolina Let's not get ahead of ourselves quite yet...First UNC has an exhibition game against something called Belmont Abbey. But as we have seen this week, cannot take an opponent lightly, especially when this guy is on the other team! I hear he is a great shooter...of course, rumor has it he has a kid brother who can really light it up! |
