Yeah, I know it's lovin' feeling. I changed it to keep it like BU720 had it.
I copied the whole song, changed every "lovin' feeling" to "love and feeling," changed a couple things to be more basketball like and then went to a website that list the words that rhyme with whatever word came at the end of a line. Pure genius on my part.

off on the issue. Both lead much more successful...and full...DP campaigns. I don't know Loren's alias on here, but I know he is around, he may have

Anyway, just to throw in my 2-cents... I think the Dawg Pound would greatly benefit from incentives for attendance. You're already tracking the number of games each fan comes to, reward the top 6 attendees with free tickets to the NCAA's. Or use a tenure system, each year you're a DP member, if you reach certain attendance goals, then you get a discount on your membership each year...ultimately culminating in a free senior season, with special allowances made for study abroaders. From a sponsorship side I think the pound needs a sugar daddy. One or two local businesses that would like the draw from the student population. Maybe it's harder than I anticipate, but JZEIMER might be willing to help with some connections, since he spent some time in advertising sales, and just his general uncanny ability to make things happen (it's not a coincidence his name rhymes with schemer, and I mean that in a very complimentary way, some of the crap he used to come up with was unbelievable.) As for some minor tweaks, as much as I thought the tie-dye shirts were kinda ugly, this years shirts are simply unacceptable. I don't know what to say about the attendance issues this year, there really doesn't seem to be any reason for it. The Greek concept is an interesting approach to the issue. Two groups that I know used to be the first and in front every game are now top levelers. Sig Chi used to take up half of the south end and Phi Psi used to take up almost all of the North end, now every time I go to a game the Sig's are upper level behind the benches and the Phi Psi's are somewhere between 21-25. My theory? Frat guys like to pre-game...if you know what I mean, and I think you do...and getting to a game an hour or even a half an hour early is a total buzz kill, and I mean that literally. Having to get their early to secure a spot is a drag, the card scanning may seem small and mundane, but lets face it, the drop off in court side Dawg Pound attendance seems to be correlated...I know I'm contradicting myself a little here, but it may be part of the problem. When I was a Soph. or maybe Jnr. we could come get wristbands starting at like 5pm before a game (or noon) we would always come early, grab our bands then head back to get to drinking, and drinking loosens your inhibitions, leads to more insanity in the DP and maybe some better heckling. I've noticed a drop of in the fandom, it should be higher, if applications are up due to our national recognition on the court then we should be bringing a better crop of fans, I don't know. But it's been a bit heart breaking to see our students become stoic. Hell even when we were struggling to stay at .500 or better in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 things were better in the pound then they are now. I hope it gets better.

Alright, time for me to chime in! First, congratulations on my 1,000 post! I had big plans for it, but it can wait for the good of the Dawg Pound. I must admit
I was on travel this week so I was not up to date on the posts and notice 5 or 6 have been edited (deleted) so I am not 100% informed. In any event, let me
chime in.
Thought #1 - The Dawg Pound will only be successful for basketball. There is little point in putting in the effort, structure or system to try and make it work for other sports at Butler. No student (other than a friend, fraternity brother or significant other) wants to watch a Butler baseball game on a Friday afternoon. I can say this because I played baseball at Butler. Is it nice to have fans, yeah of course, but not if they are there only to get points. Focus on basketball... Though #2 - Change is good at times. Perhaps it is time for a rebranding effort in the Dawg Pound. Think about some of the other names - The Paint Crew (Purdue), Cameron Crazies (Duke), eRUPPtion Zone (Kentucky), Izzone (Michigan State) and others are specific to basketball (coach, jargon or arena). Think about this for the future. I am sure people will have plenty of ideas. For instance - Blue's Bark, Hinkle Hellraisers, etc... Thought #3 - Sometimes in life you have to act like you are important to be important. Try to install this thought into the Dawg Pound. At MSU you must be a member of the Izzone and attand a high percent of games over your first three years to be able to sit in lower section. This won't work at Butler but perhaps an idea of where freshman have the top two rows, sophomores next two, etc... That way when they get to the front row they have some pride and sense of earning. Thought #4 - Need attitude. We are too nice in the Pound these days. People may not agree but the Student Section should be one that brings fear to the eyes of the opponent. But-ler Bull-dogs, B-U and other chants is not intimidating. I had three goals every game - (1) Elicit one response / acknoewledge from an opposing player (they heard you) (2) Get warned by the refs for telling them how to do their job (happened more frequently than #1) (3) Make sure I did everything possible to have all of the students in the game In closing, build a popular culture and an organization that people can take pride in. This will increase the demand and the spirit in the section. JJ's scouting reports were awesome. We need more of that - get dirt on the players - GPA, police records, ex girlfriends, etc... attack their weaknesses. Not sure if this helps at all but these are my thoguhts. Best piece of advice I can provide is go back to the basics, stick to basketball and install pride in the organization or fear in the opponents. Todd PS - DTS - you were right. You had to be a student (or have student ID) to get in and you had to have a wristband to sit down. This was the process since 2001 when the Dawg Pound was reborn. Security on site to constantly monitor this, no questions asked. PPS - I purposely have not commented on last night. It would only get me more fired up. If I was on this team I would be chomping at the bit to get out there. If anyone's competitive spirit is not keeping them up all night then they are lacking a key quality that we have always had on our team and in our players. Attitude |

Sorry Ziemer, I couldn't decide how to spell it and was too lazy to look, I went back and forth.
As for drinking in the Pound, I remember those days as well, Jet and Myself showed up pretty early on several occasions to join you. I just decided to not include it, to protect the innocent. And to avoid calling to mind a particular arrest. I also couldn't remember if it was your or Beat that was president, went with Beat, IDK why...anyway, I think I got my point across.

in terms of not being nasty to the poster who wrote that.
I have had a player flick me off and had UAB's star player grab his nuts at the freethrow line when we brought up things about his DUI and facebook. So please before you make accusations bout how rowdy the front people are please please please learn the facts i do not sit in the front row and i maybe will have a one liner every game or so, but we tear the refs a new one. When you have a referree respond to you with thats what my ex wife used to say and things along their personal lives, i think that is good enough this generation of kids are completely different than the ones that went through 5 years ago, even that short. these exec have no responsibilty to be accountable for every 1300 or w/e # of people that are in the organization. they have no accountability to go knock on every door and drag them to the game blame the students and not the exec that have increased the size of the actual organization. they are doing all they to bring people to the games but there are those select few who will complain about everything and no no facts about anything |

advice on how to do this successfully feel free to personal message me. Its not hard and you can consume and get good seats at the same time.

I don't think that putting freshmen in the back would be that great of an idea because I know freshmen that have been to almost every game in the front row, shirtless, screaming their heads off. This could be implemented if we got a uniform amount of rowdiness throughout the DP but that could take a while. Ideally Seeds would make a color coated chart for DP member rowdiness and seating could be assigned by that |
