"Tim Floyd will be named basketball coach at Arizona, Mark Asher of Sports 620 KTAR, ESPN's radio affiliate in Phoenix, is reporting according to multiple sources. Floyd met with Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood on Wednesday night to work out the final details of the deal and an announcement is expected Thursday, according to sources." Andy Katz went on to say that Jamie Dixon would be a leading candidate for the USC job. Thus opening up Pitt and that leading candidate would be Xavier's Sean Miller. Secondly, his mentor Ben Howland coaches down the street at UCLA. Thirdly, he would make more money and would have more resources available to him, as USC's athletic budget is enormous. Fourth, Quality of Life - So-Cal vs. Pittsburgh, are you serious? No comparison. Do you need more?

UCLA = BBL..... USC = FBL.... I can certainly see Dixon staying at Pitt. But, I invite you Duck to supply your top ten reasons anyway!

Pitt advanced past the Sweet 16 for the first time in the modern era* this year. You can't look at rosters/success from 2008-09 as a capsule for whether taking a new job is a good/bad idea. You have to look at a 10 year range for prospects of future success (and of course, earnings). USC participated in the 1940 and 1954 NCAA Tournament Final Four. Pitt's lone Final Four appearance came in 1941. *Modern Era is commonly accepted as 1979-2009 when the NCAA began seeding the tournament. Last Edited By: Duck on a Rock 04/02/09 10:30 AM. There is no way to know that Jamie Dixon would take the Pitt job, but it makes a lot of sense given his history in California. In terms of a recruiting standpoint, California is loaded with D1 talent and not as many schools jockeying to position themselves for their services. The negatives: leaving a program he's put a stamp on; leaving the Big East, the best conference in college hoops; playing second fiddle to USC football (although Pitt football is a pretty big deal) Even if it happens, there is no guarantee that Sean Miller takes the Pitt job, but like Dixon, it is a perfect combination of circumstances. I am not as worried about Brad with Xavier, but it is a possibility worth looking at. There are two solid coaches on the Xavier bench right now who would be prime candidates to replace Miller and keep the program going. One, Chris Mack, is a Xavier graduate too.

Like half of the threads on the first page are about coaching changes.... If Dixon goes to USC (I don't think it's a huge stretch), Miller will jump at the Pitt opportunity if they offer it to him.

IF, and that is a big IF, Brad were to consider leaving, I would think that who is on the schedule the next year wouldn't be one of the deciding factors. IF Brad were to leave to go to X, then I would see the universities agreeing to delay the series for a few years. I can't believe I am reading these coaching rumors, speculation, etc., let alone actually posting. Ugh! I can't wait until all of these openings have been filled (by someone other than Stevens).

Granted he has had a good run with Pitt, but going to coach in LA with all that talent out there and that weather and the glamour, he probably will take it IMO if those rumors are true. As far as dominos, if the above mentioned happens, Miller will be in Pittsburgh IMO in about 10 minutes. Then we need to start paying attention. Miller also being mentioned down here for this job at Memphis, which I wouldn't touch for all the tea in china now. Memphis is a death trap now, but they have as much or more money than about any program in the country to throw at coaches, and awesome facilities. So, it is going to have some appeal. On Sports 56 down here they mentioned Brad's name as a possible candidate for the UM job, which I completely laughed at. But just saying it has now been thrown out there by the media down here.

I'm not buying the talent pool argument either........ Pitt recruits NY, NJ, MD and DC....... SoCal has had this supposedly huge talent pool for years....... where has it gotten them? Since 2000-2001- SoCal..... 1 Sweet 16- 1 Elite 8 Pitt......... 4 Sweet 16's- 1 Elite 8 SoCal...... W-169 L-119 Pitt......... W-247 L-66. I'm also not seeing how taking on your mentor down the street is an advantage. Call me blind.

The whole "quality of life" is what is irrelevant. We're not talking Anchorage vs. Lexington. USC has been there all along, and no one has made them successful. There is a report in The Commerical Appeal that Memphis' new number one target is, your favorite and mine...Bruce Pearl. And that reportedly, they are seeking permission from UT to speak to him and he may be interested. Now, why the hell leave UT for the armpit that is Memphis now? Good question. But wow, that would be a nice bombshell in response to the mess Cal left behind.
