Because the university frequently uses "Dawgs" on its web sites and its official communications. It's just a fun way to refer to the Bulldogs. If you don't like the term, fine. But that doesn't make the rest of us "non-spelling semi-literates."

Staxawax wrote:Bob, you are probably like me being old school and not always agreeing with change. But, I like "dawgs". I thought about this a little while watching the Missouri/UCLA game today. The Tigers call themselves "Mizzou". I don't know how long they have done this, but it's even on their unis. Purdue is the Boilermakers but more often called the Boilers. At least we have something to discuss on this issue. Poor North Dakota, which dropped it's "Fighting Sioux" name for PC purposes. Now? They are North Dakota. Period. Does anyone have any suggestions for them? Here is a list I started:
Fighting Moo. (Chik fil a could be a corporate sponsor),
Fighting Dew (as in Mountain Dew),
Fighting Zoo...... a different animal mascot each game!
